var 43 crashes buylist (aircraft)

TTDPatch Version: r1340
Patch Feature: newgrf
Attemping to use var 43 (player info) in a recolour callback for a helicopter crashed TTDP when viewing the buylist (1st crashlog) - the same var worked fine when applied outside the buylist only.
I tried using the var in the buylist but not in a callback, and it still crashed (2nd crashlog).
The sprite used in the recolour callback is:

Title: All buy lists
Clicking on any vehicle in any of the four buy lists will open a vehicle window that has no vehicle graphic. The game may or may not crash at this point.
or
Clicking on any vehicle in any of the four buy lists will crash the game directly.
